Gozo’s Public Transport Service Now Fully Electric Following €11 Million Investment
In recent years, the world of sport has been shaken by highly visible cases of ethical failure and corruption. As Maltese athletes continue to achieve stronger results on the international stage, the pressure to succeed has increased, bringing with it the risk of unsporting behaviour and integrity breaches. In this context, the role of strong governance and public oversight is more important than ever.
The Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AIMS) plays a central role in safeguarding the values of sport. Its main function is to promote and regulate a safe, fair, and healthy sporting environment across Malta. AIMS operates through specialised and trained departments that are equipped to identify, prevent, and respond to threats to sport integrity, including manipulation, unethical conduct, and corruption.
Public employees working within AIMS and the wider sport integrity sector carry significant responsibility. Their role goes beyond regulation and enforcement; they are guardians of fairness, transparency, and ethical standards. Through monitoring, education, policy development, and collaboration with stakeholders, public employees help ensure that athletes can compete on a level playing field, free from undue influence or pressure.
AIMS is firmly committed to advancing principles such as honesty, respect, and accountability through cooperation with sports organisations, government entities, and the wider community. This collective approach recognises that protecting sport integrity is a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement, awareness, and strong institutional support are essential to preserving the values that make sport meaningful.
By promoting integrity and ethical conduct at all levels, AIMS and its public employees help ensure that sport in Malta remains a source of national pride, personal development, and positive social impact for present and future generations.
