Public Service ready to lead the implementation of national priorities
The Housing Authority aims to support first-time buyers through variety of scheme aimed at encouraging home-ownership.
The First-Time Buyer Scheme, is an initiative designed to support young individuals and families taking their initial steps on the property ladder. Launched as part of a commitment to guarantee stability in the housing sector and make homeownership affordable. This scheme is tailored to offer support on their home-ownership journey during the crucial first years after purchasing their first home.
Under this scheme, eligible applicants who acquired their first property after January 1st, 2022, can receive a grant totaling €10,000, distributed over a period of ten years. Each year, participants will receive €1,000, paid in June.
This initiative aims to alleviate some of the financial pressures associated with purchasing a home, particularly during the early years of ownership. By providing this annual grant, the Housing Authority hopes to ease the burden on young homeowners, allowing them to focus on building their lives and careers.
To qualify, the property must have been purchased with a bank home loan, and the property must be used as the applicant's primary residence. Applications must be submitted by April of the year following the property purchase. For instance, if you bought your home in 2024, you must apply by April 2025.
The scheme has been well-received with around 5,200 individuals and families part of the scheme in 2024.
The Housing Authority remains committed to enhancing such innovative programs, continually working towards offering more efficient and accessible services to support homeownership.
