Permanent Secretaries: Strengthening Leadership Across the Public Service
Prime Minister Robert Abela met with representatives of the MCESD to discuss the Government’s priorities for this legislature, with a focus on social dialogue, the implementation of Malta Vision 2050, and improving quality of life.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of social partners in shaping policies that provide certainty, stability and clear direction for the country. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to consultation, as seen during key moments such as the pandemic and in the development of Malta Vision 2050.
The Head of the Public Service, Tony Sultana, emphasised the central role of the public administration in turning national priorities into concrete action.
“The public administration is ready to listen, but above all, to lead the necessary implementation. Modern leadership means creating a clear vision, taking courageous decisions where needed, and facilitating the necessary change for Malta to remain competitive, inclusive and sustainable,” said Tony Sultana.
The meeting also highlighted the Government’s ambitious and reformist programme of work, focusing on health, education, sustainable mobility, the environment, digitalisation and people’s wellbeing.
Cabinet Secretary Ryan Spagnol said that work has already started on the implementation of the Electoral Manifesto measures, together with other measures that were already underway. He also referred to the Wellbeing Index, which aims to improve quality of life by 25%.
This meeting confirms the commitment to keep social dialogue at the centre of the country’s progress. For the Public Service, this means a clear role: to listen, coordinate and deliver the necessary changes so that the Government’s priorities reach citizens.
