This week, the Maltese government launched the Malta Vision 2050, a plan that will shape the country’s future over the next 25 years. The goal is to improve the quality of life for everyone, focusing on important areas like digital innovation, infrastructure, education, healthcare, sustainability, and jobs.

The plan will guide Malta’s development and set specific targets to be reached by 2035, ensuring that progress is made on time. The Public Service will play a key role in both preparing and implementing this vision, ensuring the country stays on track to meet its goals.

To make sure Malta Vision 2050 is a success, a Steering Committee (SteerCo) was set up. This committee includes top officials, including Principal Permanent Secretary Tony Sultana and the Prime Minister’s Head of Secretariat, along with ministers responsible for crucial areas like energy, climate change, transport, health, education, and Gozo.

The committee will be chaired by Minister for the Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, Hon. Silvio Schembri, and will also involve internationally recognized experts to provide guidance.

At the launch of this Vision, Tony Sultana emphasized the important role of the Public Service, saying it is not just there to manage daily tasks but to lead the transformation of the country. He highlighted the need for further digital transformation, making services more efficient and reducing bureaucracy.

"We must continue embracing new technologies to create a Public Service that serves a modern society," Sultana said. He added that while big progress has already been made, there is more to be done to meet the demands of Malta Vision 2050.

A key part of the Malta Vision 2050 plan is ensuring that everything is done transparently and with accountability. The public will be able to track the government’s progress toward the goals through clear milestones set for 2035 and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), allowing everyone to see how the plan is unfolding.

Head of Public Service Tony Sultana also emphasized that these milestones help ensure the vision stays on course, and if changes are needed along the way, they can be made.

Sultana also stressed the importance of working together to achieve Malta Vision 2050. He called on all sectors, both public and private, to collaborate to build a stronger, more inclusive Malta.

"Together, we can build a better Malta for current and future generations," he said, urging everyone to be innovative, transparent, and collaborative as the country moves forward.
