Gozo’s Public Transport Service Now Fully Electric Following €11 Million Investment
Organised by Festivals Malta, the Malta Carnival offers a cultural feast characterised by crafted handmade trailers, colourful masks, dancing shows and street theatre. This festive event, which dates back decades, is traditionally celebrated before Ash Wednesday with different carnival activities taking place around both Malta and Gozo. The main celebrations of the Maltese Carnival take place around Valletta, with an exhibition featuring the hand-crafted trailers and choreographed dances at St George's Square.
Once Carnival ends, preparations for the next years carnival immediately start. Participants will start designing their trailer for the next carnival, whilst Festivals Malta's logistics team, together with the respective Committee, meets up and starts to discuss for the edition of the following year.
The Maltese Carnival will not be possible without the hardworking team who works hard to make this cultural feast a success. The carnival is one of the biggest events organised by ‘Festivals Malta’, and this team addresses logistics in different way than when dealing with the other festivals in the agency's portfolio.
The team start working on the logistics of this large event several months in advance. These include the arena held in the square, the routes that trailers take around Valletta, risk assessments and safety precautions and much more. During the Carnival itself, the Festivals Malta team, together with a team of specialist technicians coordinate everything including the programme in the arena in St Georges Square and that of St.Anne Street. The team needs to coordinate with the media, take care of the marketing aspects, the coordination of trailers, the organisation of the exhibition held at Spazju Kreattiv and much more.
The Maltese Carnival is an annual appointment for various enthusiasts and visitors who visit our country specifically for this time and this is why Festivals Malta always continues to improve its product together with the Participants' Association and with the collaboration of the disciplined forces and other government and civil entities to further evolve and improve this cultural event on both an artistic and organisational level.
The Malta Carnival will be held between the 28th February and the 4th March 2025. For more information visit www.festivals.mt/karnival
