Gozo’s Public Transport Service Now Fully Electric Following €11 Million Investment
A few days prior to World Cancer Day, a new community-based oncology outreach service was launched following the successful completion of a pilot project. The service aims to provide essential cancer-related care directly within the community, facilitating access to care for patients who find it difficult to travel to hospitals or health centres.
The pilot project initially started with one nurse, and, throughout 2025, a total of 425 sessions were carried out with positive results. Following this success, the service was expanded and now includes three full-time nurses, two drivers, and two vans equipped with specialised medical equipment.
This strengthening of the service is enabling an increased number of community sessions, with 40 sessions already completed by the end of January. The introduction of this service reflects an ongoing commitment to more accessible and patient-centred cancer care. Future work in the field of oncology will continue to focus on prevention, early screening, and sustainable investment in services that place the patient at the centre of care.
