Public Service ready to lead the implementation of national priorities
The Logistics and Infrastructure Directorate within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation is dedicated to providing students with the best possible learning environment. Guided by a vision of modern, sustainable, and technologically advanced schools, the Directorate is driving forward a long-term transformation of Malta’s educational infrastructure.
Central to this transformation is the Edu-Infrastructure Programme, a 13-year national initiative that will see every school across Malta fully renovated and equipped with the latest technology. This ambitious investment is designed to ensure that students benefit from the highest standards of learning facilities while schools remain at the forefront of educational innovation.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the programme. Renovated schools are being upgraded to Green Building standards, incorporating the most energy-efficient solutions currently available. Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) air-conditioning systems are being installed to reduce electricity consumption, while double-glazed apertures and roof insulation further enhance energy efficiency.
To complement these measures, and in collaboration with the Climate Action Authority, photovoltaic solar farms are being installed on school rooftops. This renewable energy source will significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels, cutting emissions and contributing to Malta’s environmental commitments.
Work on the Adrian Borg School in Birkirkara is now nearing completion, representing one of the latest milestones of the Edu-Infrastructure Programme. Similar projects are already underway across the island, reflecting steady progress toward the creation of a modern, sustainable and future-ready school network.
