Gozo’s Public Transport Service Now Fully Electric Following €11 Million Investment
77% of the Budget measures were carried out in 2022. This was the result of an exercise carried out by the Public Service and published with the work carried out on all budgetary measures.
The Head of Public Service, Tony Sultana, explained how this monitoring exercise shows that, in total, 324 measures were carried out this year. This includes measures from the 2022 budget as well as other measures which in their year were still in progress, but were finalised this year.
The measures carried out include new health centres, more free medicines, Community Policing in more localities, new green spaces, increased stipends, free public transport, increases in pensions and reductions in part timer taxes.
Principal Permanent Secretary, Tony Sultana, mentioned how with this monitoring and implimentation exercise, the Public Service is not only efficient but also effective. He said that this year’s implimentation rate was amongst the highest in recent years, despite this year’s challenges including a general election and subsequent changes of portfolios.
Minister for Fiannce and Employment, Clyde Caruana said that the Budget measures for 2022 were carried out against a backdrop of major challenges caused by a War. He explained that on international markets, energy prices rose disproportionately. He mentioned what is happening in a country neighbouring Malta — Italy. Italian households expect energy bills of up to EUR 4700. In Malta this reality does not exist because the Government is intervening in a strong manner and is taking this burden from the Maltese and Gozitan families.
Once again, Budget 2022 measures have been aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development targets; in this respect, Malta currently occupies 33rd place from 163 countries.
