Gozo’s Public Transport Service Now Fully Electric Following €11 Million Investment
Between 1st January and 31st July 2025, the Department for Industrial and Employment Relations registered a total of 724 investigation cases. These included 376 cases involving employees whose employment had been terminated, 60 cases concerning individuals still in employment, and 288 generic investigations. The latter also included 78 workplace inspections, during which approximately 200 employees were interviewed. An additional 60 inspections were specifically conducted in relation to Employment Agencies.
Out of the total investigations, 250 cases resulted in financial claims, and through the direct efforts of the Department’s officials, a total of €748,697.78 was successfully recovered.
During the same period, the Department referred 143 cases to the Police to initiate legal proceedings in the Criminal Court against employers who either failed to pay wages to their employees or did not cooperate with the Department’s investigations. Notably, 39 of these cases were the outcome of a comprehensive investigation into the Digital Platform for Delivery sector initiated in 2024.
In terms of client support, the Department’s Customer Care section handled a total of 14,842 phone calls via its dedicated helplines - 9,838 calls on 1575 (the helpline for employees) and 5,004 calls on 1576 (the helpline for employers).
In addition, the Department responded to 8,287 emails, which included queries on employment conditions in various scenarios and requests for the Department’s intervention to investigate particular cases.
The Department also recorded 1,906 walk-in visits, with individuals seeking information about their working conditions or wishing to lodge complaints or initiate investigation cases.
