Gozo’s Public Transport Service Now Fully Electric Following €11 Million Investment
Tourism in Malta has never been stronger. Tourism expenditure soared to €3.3 billion in 2024, a remarkable 23% increase over the previous year, reaffirming Malta’s position as a thriving Mediterranean destination.
But it's not just about the numbers, what’s truly remarkable is how this growth is evolving. Growth is no longer confined to the summer months, Malta has seen significant increases in winter tourism, demonstrating that our strategy to promote the island as a year-round destination is working. We've also broadened our marketing reach, attracting more visitors not only from our traditional European markets but also from long-haul destinations across Asia and the Americas.
This success has led to a strategic shift from increasing tourist numbers to enhancing the quality of the visitor experience. Summer 2025 initiatives focus on delivering value while preserving Malta’s unique character. A key example is the management of the Blue Lagoon, where a new visitor booking system, launched by the Malta Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, helps protect the site’s delicate ecosystem and improve the visitor experience. MTA’s Team Blue Lagoon has doubled cleaning and waste management resources, while intensified routines and increased enforcement patrols to ensure the area remains clean and well-maintained.
As done in previous years, this summer the Authority will also be supporting and promoting a dynamic lineup of world-class events that showcase the very best of Malta’s culture, music, and hospitality. Summer 2025 will feature standout highlights including the return of Isle of MTV Malta, Europe’s largest free summer music festival, drawing international artists and thousands of fans. MTA is also proud to organise the BBC Orchestra - Ultimate 80s and the ever-growing SummerDaze Festival, known for its high-energy performances and global appeal.
These flagship events form part of a much broader calendar of cultural, musical, and community-based experiences curated by MTA to ensure a vibrant and engaging offering for visitors throughout the season.
