Carnival is the result of months of dedicated work by artists, the Festivals Malta team together with the Carnival Committee, and the public administration, who work together to bring this ancient tradition to life.

As we prepare for this festival carnival weekend, the different workshops and warehouses have already started with their activities. Float builders spend months refining designs, building structures and applying layers of papier-mâché, while costume makers design elaborate and colourful costumes, and dance companies prepare their choreographies for the parades. These efforts reflect a tradition deeply rooted in Maltese culture, where craftsmanship, satire, colour and movement come together to create a distinctive carnival atmosphere enjoyed by all generations.

The 2026 programme is expected to honour this spirit while offering a varied and engaging experience for different audiences. Valletta and Floriana will once again host the main competitive parades, featuring large floats, colourful costumes, and choreographed performances that transform the streets into a vibrant stage.
