Sports Village at MFCC: four days of sport, energy and discovery for students
Gozo has reached an important milestone in sustainable mobility, with its public transport service now operating entirely through electric, zero-emission buses.
This follows an €11 million investment; the largest ever made in public transport in Gozo. Through this investment, diesel-powered buses have been replaced by new electric vehicles, marking an important step towards cleaner and more efficient mobility across the island.
The new electric fleet is supported by charging infrastructure at the Ta’ Xħajma Multi-Modal Hub and Park and Ride. This facility now also serves as a charging depot for the electric buses operating in Gozo, allowing the fleet to be charged efficiently and supporting the long-term operation of a cleaner transport system.
The transition to a fully electric bus fleet will contribute to lower emissions, cleaner air and quieter roads in Gozo’s communities. It will also support a better quality of life for residents and visitors, while strengthening Gozo’s wider vision for sustainable development.
This project was made possible through collaboration between the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Transport Malta, the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, and Malta Public Transport.
With this investment, Gozo is taking another important step towards a cleaner, more connected and more sustainable public transport system.
