FREE SERVICE FOR 30,000 STUDENTS

Date 25.08.2022
Time 5 minutes

This summer, yet again, public officers within the Department of Education are working hard to organise free transport to and from school for another scholastic year for around 30,000 students.

This service involves great coordination and logistic skills. Figures from the last scholastic year show how, in all, the Department organised around 4,000 routes in Malta and Gozo, at a total cost of EUR 60 million. The services are provided by approximately 180 operators.

This free service is of great benefit to parents but also has a positive effect on traffic and the environment.

This service is open to any child attending compulsory schooling from Kinder 1 to Year 11 (formerly Form 5), in state, Church or private schools and living more than one kilometre away from school.

It should be noted that many additional routes are also organised for students following educational programmes forming part of the curriculum, such as sports activities and therapeutic programmes.

Anyone interested in this free child transport service should apply from here as soon as possible.
