MyChild Initiative: Towards a Unified Digital Platform for Children's Services

The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation has announced the MyChild Initiative, a national digital platform designed to centralise access to services for children from birth to 18 years of age. This initiative forms part of the Government’s broader strategy to modernise public service delivery and enhance family support systems across Malta and Gozo.

A Milestone for Education Services

All education-related services have now been successfully integrated into the MyChild platform. Parents and legal guardians can manage essential functions, including school admissions, student transport applications, and access to student support services through a secure and user-friendly online portal. This development marks a major step in transforming how families interact with the public education system, making it more efficient and transparent.

Cross-Sector Expansion Underway

The Ministry is also working to expand the platform’s reach across other Government ministries and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that provide services to children. These include areas such as healthcare, welfare, childcare, culture, and youth development.

The objective is to create a single, cohesive digital environment where families can access a wide range of child-focused services. This inter-ministerial collaboration highlights the Government’s commitment to building an inclusive and comprehensive ecosystem that supports the well-being and development of all children in Malta.

A Vision Rooted in Inclusivity and Accessibility

The MyChild Initiative reflects the Government’s national vision for citizen-focused public services. By digitalising and unifying services for children, the platform ensures that every family regardless of background or location has equitable access to support and opportunity. It reinforces Malta’s ongoing dedication to child development, digital transformation, and public service excellence.

The Ministry will provide regular updates as the platform continues to expand. Close collaboration with public and voluntary sector stakeholders will remain a priority to ensure that the MyChild Initiative meets the evolving needs of children and families.

In-House Innovation

The MyChild platform was conceived and developed entirely internally by a core team of four dedicated public officers, working under the strategic direction of the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer (CIO). From the outset, the Information Management Unit (IMU) collaborated with specialist solution designers to ensure usability remained central to every decision aiming for an interface that parents could navigate with ease.

Throughout development, the team conducted successive usability tests, continuously refining features through a user-centred approach. By embedding accessibility and simplicity from day one, MyChild now delivers a seamless experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile placing powerful tools directly in the hands of families.
