Junior College lecturers will enjoy better conditions and opportunities to further advance their career. This collective agreement was the 12th negotiated in the last five months, with the Public Service continuing to prioritise investment in its workers.
The agreement will lead to a substantial improvement in the financial package and working conditions, while Qualification Allowance has also been introduced for staff holding a PhD or a second, or subsequent Master’s qualification.
The agreement recognised Masters in Teaching and Learning as a criterion in the recruitment of Junior College Assistant Lecturer, Junior College Lecturer and Junior College Senior Lecturer I.
The agreement also provides for a reduction in the years of service required for Junior College academic staff to progress from Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer as well as Senior Lecturer 1. This is while the Academy Enhancement Leave will see an aggregate reduction of 8 years’ service.
The agreement was reached after a period of discussions between all parties involved, covering the years from 2019 to the end of 2023.
