Building the Workforce Behind Malta’s Tourism Success

Date 31.07.2026
Time 5 minutes

Malta’s tourism industry remains one of the country’s key economic drivers. As the sector adapts to growing expectations around quality, sustainability and innovation, its long-term success will depend on a skilled, adaptable and professional workforce.

The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) has therefore launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, From Consolidation to Mediterranean Excellence. The plan aims to strengthen tourism education and prepare the professionals who will lead the sector in the years ahead.

Building on the achievements of its 2021–2025 strategy, ITS will focus on academic excellence, internationalisation, industry collaboration, research and innovation, operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

The strategy is aligned with Malta Vision 2050 and the Public Service’s commitment to sustainable development and a future-ready workforce. By investing in education, skills and stronger links with industry, ITS is helping Malta safeguard the competitiveness and quality of its tourism sector.

Through this plan, ITS will continue strengthening its role as a leading institution for tourism, hospitality and culinary education, while supporting Malta’s ambition to set higher standards of excellence across the Mediterranean.
