Works Begin on New €75 Million Organic Processing Plant
The Public Service is joining the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the official establishment of Malta’s Department of Social Security, an important milestone of service and support for Maltese and Gozitan families.
During the launch of the month-long programme of celebrations, the evolution of social security in Malta was highlighted, from basic schemes to a modern system of pensions, allowances and social benefits that continue to make a difference in people’s lives.
Permanent Secretary Mark Musu’ was also involved in this occasion, describing the anniversary as an achievement for the people and a recognition of the work carried out over the years to continue strengthening Malta’s social spirit.
In 2025, investment in pensions and social benefits reached around €1.62 billion, the highest level ever recorded. This reflects the continued commitment to ensuring that social services remain a source of support for those who need them most.
This anniversary also recognises the contribution of Public Service employees who, throughout the years, have worked to ensure that social security services are delivered effectively, professionally and close to the citizen.
