Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Gozo and Planning

Mr John Borg

Mr John Borg studied at St Aloysius’ College and further on graduated at the University of Malta with a B.A. (Hons) in Public Administration. He joined the Public Service in 1986, as a Principal Officer in the Trade Department.


In 1996 he was posted within the Consumer and Competition Division, and in 2000 assumed the role of Assistant Director (Administration) in the same Division. In 2006 he was appointed as Director (People Management and Support Services) within the Ministry for Resources and Infrastructure.


Mr Borg was appointed Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Tourism, Culture and Local Government in March 2013 and subsequently at the Ministry for Gozo, in April 2014. He has participated in meetings of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions from the European Union, with active participation in the Islands and Intermediterranean Commissions, with particular focus on challenges faced by Islands due to double insularity and accessibility issues.


In January 2024 he was confirmed as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Gozo and Planning.
